Winning a judgment and collecting on it are two very different things. Plenty of people walk out of court with a piece of paper that says they're owed money, only to discover the debtor has moved, gone quiet, or arranged things so there's nothing obvious to collect against. My job is to close that gap.

I'm Eugene Butler, a licensed Michigan private investigator in Flint, and I help creditors, collections attorneys, and judgment holders find the person and the assets that make enforcement possible. This work has two halves. The first is locating the debtor — a skip trace to establish where they actually live and work right now, because you can't enforce against someone you can't find.

The second is identifying what they have that a judgment can lawfully reach: real property, vehicles, business interests, and other assets that surface in public and lawfully available records. A judgment is only as good as the assets behind it, and a clear picture of what someone owns is what lets your attorney decide whether to garnish, lien, levy, or pursue another remedy under Michigan law. I'll be straight about the legal lane I stay in.

I'm an investigator, not a collector — I don't contact debtors to demand payment, and I don't do anything that would run afoul of the laws that govern debt collection. I also don't pull private financial records I have no permissible purpose to access; I won't pretext my way into protected bank data, because evidence gathered that way is useless and exposes you to liability. What I provide is lawful research and field work that hands your attorney or collections team the information they need to act through the proper legal channels.

Honesty matters here as much as anywhere. Sometimes the investigation turns up real, reachable assets and a recovery becomes realistic. Other times it shows that a debtor genuinely has little worth pursuing right now, and the smartest move is to wait or reconsider.
